Q. When invited to a wedding, do you give a gift whether or not you attend? Does this extend to other functions as well, such as wedding/baby showers, engagement parties, etc.?

A. If you are extended an invitation to a celebration where you would naturally take a gift, then a gift should be sent whether or not you attend.

One response to “Invitations and Gifts: Don’t Arrive Empty-handed

  1. I disagree with the EPI advice. Sometimes a guest receives invitations to events where he doesn’t really know the host — is more of an acquaintance rather than a close friend or family member. In those cases I believe you aren’t obligated to send a gift if you’re not attending, but you are obligated to promptly respond to the invitation.
